All prospective Junior High School graduates aspire to attend the best senior high schools, technical and vocational schools in Ghana. What criteria are used to group SHS in Ghana?
The selection and grouping of the various senior high and technical schools are based on the following;
Academic performance at WASSCE: It is undeniable that category A schools perform better academically than the other categories. Their overall performance in the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is excellent. When a Senior High School perform consistently better in WASSCE, the chances of getting into the category A position is high.
School achievement: Many senior high schools also got into category A because of their accomplishments. The achievements may include but are not limited to Awards, Trophies etc. The awards can be those obtained from a quiz competition or debates such as the National Maths and Science Quiz competition.
Infrastructure and facilities: School infrastructure and facilities may not directly impact the SHS category grouping. However, schools with well-furnished computer and science laboratories perform well in the long run due to practical hands-on activities. It is, therefore, no surprise that all category A schools are well-furnished with infrastructure and other facilities that aid teaching and learning.
Also, consider enrolling your ward in Spiritan Senior High Technical School. The school is fast rising academically since absorbing into the public education system.
Age of School: The age of the school also affects its ranking. Most of the category A schools have been around for quite some time. Alums of these schools contribute massively to the upliftment, including infrastructural developments.
